Happy Birthday Dad!
I would have bought you something, but we've decided to save most (if not all) of my earnings for college, and that should be a good enough present in and of itself, right? Besides, it's not like I can really buy you that Athlon 64 4000+, eh?
But you'll probably buy that for yourself, along with the rest of the computer, right? That is if you really mean it this time.
Let's take a look back in time, shall we? I don't know the exact years these various "events" took place, but hopefully the processor speeds should give most of you a rough idea.
Me: "Our machine [the one Brian and I shared, 750mhz] is faster than your's!!"
Dad: "Yea, yea. Just wait, I'll get a 1ghz when it comes out and it will scream."
...
Dad: "I'm waiting for the 2ghz."
...
*our machine is upgraded to 2ghz*
...
Dad: "The 64-bitter is going to be awesome."
...
*upgrades David's machine to 1.6ghz*
...
Dad: "Yep, that 64-bit will be nice."
...
*AndrAIa is built, clocks in at ~3.2ghz*
...
Dad: "I'm waiting for the 4200+ to push the 4000+ down in price." (most recent, just earlier this month if I recall correctly)
A new machine would do you good. But an Athlon 64 4000+?? I'm sure you'll have a very nice graphics card too. It's a shame you don't play any games
Alright everyone, say it with me:
Happy Birthday Tony's Dad!

Tony,
Thanks for the happy birthday wishes. I turned $29 this year.
FYI… I called Ability last week and asked if they would setup a Linux desktop for me. The don’t install Linux OS. I wanted someone else to do it and setup parts that I’m missing. I also, just happened to look at abilitypc.com’s price list earlier today. They updated it on March 18th, but the next processor speed (> 4000+) has not been released yet. I was hoping it was this week so that I could purchase it this month. As you can see, with all the machines in this house, why should I purchase a new one? Why buy the cow when the milk is free? Thanks for keeping the milk flowing while I wait to upgrade my computer.
Dad

We were looking at that one magazine and the processors listed for the Alienware machines had both the 4000+ and the FX, didn’t it? Hm, maybe Ability just doesn’t have the newest one.

You could always hold out for the dual-core 4000+…
March 23rd, 2005 - 22:07
I don’t need to wait for the dual-core because it plugs into the same socket 939.
*now if I can only get Linux to behave as a desktop*

It does. Very well might I add. From the various times I’ve used it, it’s worked very well for my needs (well, except in the gaming department, but that’s another story).
