Current Exam Feelings

Posted on May 14, 2008

I got a 43 on the Discrete Math exam I took last Friday.  I got a C in the class (wow those grades were fast).  I was excited when I saw that C.

The Software Engineering exam was on Monday.  The professor did not post the lecture slides from practically every lecture since the midterm, so there was very little I had to go on other than the final exam preparation powerpoint (he posted that but not the lecture slides?) that gave me chapters in the book that I had to read.  That's a lot of reading for Sunday night, so I went online to the book publisher's website and found the study guides and copy/pasted what I thought would be important into a document, 8pt fonted it, slapped some diagrams from the project benchmarks on the last page, and printed out my six-page cheat sheet.  There were a few things on the test that I remember skimming over on the study guide, but did not paste into my cheat sheet, that I wish I had pasted into my cheat sheet.  But the cheat sheet came in very handy for quite a few questions, so I'm glad I grabbed what I could online.  I answered all of them the best I could and I feel pretty good about this one.

I just finished the precalc final...  I do not feel great at all.  Yes, I put off studing until the last minute and therefore got practically no studying done.  For a good portion of the test I could not remember how to integrate at all.  It finally came back to me, however, and I was able to finish a few more problems and try my hand at a couple of others.  Based on the questions I answered (fully and partially), the max amount of points I can get is little more than 60, 60 being the lower boundary of a C.  55 is the lower boundary of a D.  If a question was worth 4 points and I answered part of it, I only gave myself one or two points, just as the professor would.  I...  I don't feel good about this one.  Not in the least.  This was easily the most important one too.  It is the class with the highest credit hours.  It is the last Calculus class I will have to take (assuming I don't fail it, that is).  I need a good grade on this.  A good grade is not what I will be getting, though.

My COM exam is due by 4:30PM tonight by 8:00PM.  ...  What?  Here is the opening paragraph to my COM final:

Choose two of the three questions below. Answer all three for extra credit. Suggested execution: Read the question carefully. Plan your answer, outline your response, write response with support from the text. In order to get credit for the third question, the response will need to be as well organized and coherent as your other responses. Your exam must be in my e-mail and in digital drop box by 4:30 PM next Wednesday, May 14 by 8 PM. [emphasis mine]

:???:

Exact same format as the midterm, so based on how well I did on the midterm (91 or 92, can't remember) and how I tackled the midterm (I read the chapters the night before and the morning of, and then wrote the midterm during the class it was due), I should be fine on this exam.

The Psych exam is Friday morning at eight.  If I read the slides throughout the day Thursday, I should be fairly well off.  I read the slides for a day or two prior to the make-up for the second midterm and I felt great about that one (I don't think I ever did receive the grade for that midterm), so preparing as such should result similarly.

I get out of the Psych exam at ten, Corey and Phil get out of their CS351 exam at 12:30.  From there we're (Stephanie too, probably) going to go to lunch at either Red Lobster or Olive Garden or something (he has a $50 gift card that works at both) as a sort of end of the year celebration.  End of Corey and Phil's year, anyway.  I'm going to get a taste of year round school beginning this summer.

I think on Saturday after I move out of my old room and then into my new room (if that's even the day us summer students move in/out, we have received no information as to the housing arrangements for the summer), I am going to go downtown and look around for stores or restuarants or any place really that may be hiring.  Sunday is yacht day.  Jeremy's dad is taking the yacht out and Jeremy invited a few of us along for the ride.  I think he said it should be able to fit the entirety of the summer swads group.  (This isn't my old roommate Jeremy, have I ever talked about this Jeremy before?) My weather toolbar applet is giving me a cool high of 63F for Sunday.  On the water that shouldn't be too bad, but it could be better.  We'll see what happens as we get closer to Sunday.  A couple days ago it was giving me 61F for Sunday.  It gave me a high of 65F one day but as the day went on the current temperature kept going up and up.  I believe it peaked at about 79F.  At one point it said Current Temp: 72F.  High: 65F.  (At a certain point during the day the high is no longer displayed, I haven't figured out what time that is yet)

So yeah...  I feel good about the majority of my exams, it's just one little fucker that's ruining the whole thing for me.  One little, important fucker.

I had a pretty awesome fail-moment the other night:

Corey: For the longest time I didn't even know Detroit was in Michigan. (or something like that?)
Tony: Didn't you study your states and capitals in school?!
Phil (who is also from Michigan) looks at Corey, waiting for a response, doesn't realize my idiocy.
Corey: LANSING IS THE CAPITAL OF MICHIGAN TONY.
