Goodbye City of the Ancients.. :(

Ugh..  Stargate: Atlantis is cancelled?  The current airing season is the last one.  Apparently they're planning to go to a dvd-movie format like SG1 is (is there any news on a third SG1 movie?  Continuum was beautifully done..  I mean, watching Baal die three (four?) different times was pretty awesome..).

Stargate: Universe is set to premiere next year, possibly in the summer time.  Here's an easier to read article that claims to list things that need to be done but really just reiterates what MGM/Sci-Fi/Brad Wright/Robert C. Cooper have said Universe will be.  Universe will be more (entirely) space-based.. more character based..  but.. it could still work.  I was hugely cautious before.. but now?  I dunno... it's worth a shot, yeah?  They're also trying to get a younger demographic interested in the show.. 'cause apparently the average age of Atlantis' current demographic is... forty-seven?

We obviously don't know how it's going to turn out yet, but if they do something new and fresh to keep people interested..  it will work well.  The premier is going to be two hours (I guess the original idea for Universe was a movie, but then they decided that could elaborate more on the story).  I am going to watch it, see what kind of things they present.. how well they present them, etc.  The basic premise is that a spaceship appears in orbit above Earth..  an Ancient/Altaran spaceship.  A team boards the spaceship and it shoots off, somewhere.  They have no idea how to control it and are stuck on it with no way back to Earth.  Could be very interesting.  The idea is to be a completely separate entity from SG1 and Atlantis, since Atlantis was really a spin-off of SG1..  We'll see how it works..  I just need to catch up on the rest of Atlantis now..
