AndrAIa’s Part List
Yea, finally found the partlist for AndrAIa. So, without further ado, here it is:
Current list of parts I plan on getting (all from http://newegg.com):
- SPIRE X-Dreamer II Silver ATX Mid-Tower Case with 350W Power Supply - $52.00
- Asus A7N8X, nForce2 Skt A, LAN/Audio Retail - $76.00
- AMD Athlon XP 3200+ "Barton", 400MHz FSB, 512K Cache Processor - Retail - $187.00
- 2 Geil Value Series 184 Pin 512MB DDR PC-3200 - $99.00 each
- Maxtor 160GB 7200RPM IDE Hard Drive - $105.00 (More space, lower price compared to the 120gb on the list!)
- Samsung Black 52X32X52X16 DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive - $52.99 (though black doesn't look all that good with a silver case..
- ATI RADEON 9600 XT 128MB AGP - $167.00
Total = $738.99
Stuff like my keyboard and mouse, and even the monitor, will come later, once I earn more money. This list is just the essentials, everything I need to get started with my new computer. I have a couple of keyboards and mice laying around anyway, and I even have access to three (yes, 3) old 14" monitors, so I can wait to get those items.
Speaking of earning money, I'm going to an interview right now! =P
Why..?
Why don't most motherboards have a speed range? I'm looking to replace this mobo that's on my list with a cheaper one from newegg.com. I did a search for the model number (at least I think it is), A7N8X. I got these results, and only a couple give a speed range. The exact mobo from CBW ($119.99) is listed as $45, refurbished. None of the new ones give speed ranges...
I'm currently looking at this one as a cheaper alternative to the one from CBW, but, again, there's no speed range! I'll try and contact newegg later today, when I have more time...
The previous one that I was looking at, from CBW, had a speed range, but it switched units! It went from 600mhz ~ 3000+ That's NOT 3000mhz, otherwise there'd be a mhz in there, not a +. It's referring to the processor model or name, or whatever, which is 3000+. The processor that I'm looking at is a 3200+, but it clocks in at 2.2ghz. So, would it be safe on that mobo? Or not?
bah
Aww yea!
OK. I got the price down MAJORLY with Ral's help (note, this is just the bare essentials. No sound card, there's on board audio; no monitor, as I can use a shitty 14" one for a while; no keyboard and mouse, i have some extra ones laying around anyway; etc. NOTE: The appropriate links for each item can be on the Compy Part List page):

Total = $881.98
Much better than the previous $1553.88! I'll get the rest of the stuff (monitor, keyboard, mouse, soundcard, TV card, etc; in that order) as I earn more money, but what's listed above is enough to get me started.
...Why am I so worried about this right now? It's not anywhere near summer, and, according to my calculations (i've always wanted to say that, actually, no, not really..), I'll get about $600 by the end of summer... Hm, maybe I could convince my mom to let me start working early, or maybe I could do something else, not quite sure what yet, though...
Update: Heh, didn't realize that the MP processor was a server processor.. -_- So, that cut down on the price by a lot, even when I did bump it up to a 3200+ =P Now, however, I think I need to get a new mobo. The current one I have listed says it's good for 600mhz ~ 3000+ I'm not sure if the ~ gives me enough leeway to put a 3200+ in, but I don't wanna take the chance... So, yea. Most of the motherboards on CBW don't list their speed ranges for the processors, but I'm hesitant about buying processors and motherboards over the 'net because they most likely won't do all the good heatsync stuff like CBW would. CBW will do it right on the spot, as soon as I buy it, for free..
Update (again): Actually, i've only found one ASUS board on newegg.com that gives the speed range for the processor. I haven't looked at any others yet 'casue I like ASUS and would like to go with one of their motherboards if I could.
