How did I let this happen?

Anyway, hell week is almost over!  Spring Break is soooo close!!

Apparently we're leaving for Carbondale at eight-thirty Saturday morning.  Oof.

So.

Single.
Again.
Frustrating.

I was upset not because.. ok, yeah, I was upset because it was Nicole that broke it off, but I was mostly upset that this sort of thing just keeps happening over and over.
Either:
a) I don't get the girl, at all (despite that things are looking great; e.g. Stephanie);
b) I get the girl but it ends up bad and I question whether it was even worth it (sorry Linda);
or
c) I get the girl and I lose her less than a week later (Sadly, Nicole hasn't won the "shortest relationship" award.  Heather's three days with me way back when wins against Nicole's five).
There's a hidden 'd' option that is about me being too emo to even do anything about the girl, but I believe I've moved on from that stage (though I think it was only recently, when I asked Stephanie out..).

Honestly.. going into it, I didn't let myself get all that excited or attached or... anything.  Past experience told me to be cautious.  Past experience has taught me well. :(

Nicole and I talked, we're cool.  Y'all can get out of the dramabomb shelters now.  We make better friends anyway.

IIT's site said my card was declined by the bank twice in a row.  Then the third time they said that they received my order but were unable to process it at the time.  I think I have a bursar hold...  Actually, I know I do.  I checked my holds at work on Friday out of curiosity.  Ugh.  Looks like I'm going to have to yell at the bursar's tomorrow.  About several things.  I've got the money, though!

Me: my mom worked something out with brian because she owed him money..
Me: i fucking love my mom
Jason Benaim: pro tip... when angry, don't communicate anything in writing
Me: ..
Me: that's how i communicate

Truth.  I am terrible with words spoken.  The written language is where I prefer to do all my communicating.  It is so much less impromptu than spoken.  I have time to actually think about what I want to say.

It is 57 degrees outside right now and it is only going to get colder as the day goes on.  This is completely unfair.  Weather.com says it's going to hit 22F by noon, and then 15F by midnight.  FROM FIFTY-SEVEN at roughly four in the morning.  Argh.  Spring should come soon.  Either that, or another awesomely huge snowfall.  We haven't made our snow-dalek yet.

I missed dinner on Saturday due to waking up late.  Phil tells me they were talking about me and how I'm the only one that's double-dipped in swads.  Maybe I heard him wrong, but that entire statement is wrong. :-P I've technically triple-dipped (Remember: I did go out on a date with Stephanie, Phil and I determined that that counts) and both Linda and Nicole were sloppy-seconds (terrible term, but what else can I use to describe it?) of other swads members.  Then again!  Linda went out with both Jason Lemery and myself (and Casey at one point, way back when?  I am probably very wrong.).  Nicole has gone out with both Corey and myself.  Amber has gone out with both Phil and Ragu.  Even so, I still feel the whoriest of them all.  I need to get out of swads more.  :-P

I have yet to receive an email back from Parking Services about whether my car is OK in the lot by Keating.  I doubt I have time to visit them, the bursar's, AND work tomorrow all between classes.  Just two more weeks...  then spring break!  Actually, one more week until Brawl, then another week until a week of Brawl.  A week straight.  A fucking week of nothing but playing video games with Phil and Corey and Casey and maybe a few of the girls who are staying.  I think they are planning some trip down to some castle in...  Copeland? the first weekend of break.  That would be neat.  I would like to go and check it out.

I hope this week will be better than last week :(

The upgrade to wordpress (and the subsequent upgrade of various plugins) broke the image headlines, the custom smilies I had installed, and, for a short while, the main page was displaying every single post I have ever made.  It took me a while to realize why it was loading so slowly...  Then it hit me: it was trying to load and display almost six years worth of journal.  That's a lot of shit.  The scrollbar was so tiny.  :(

I got a thirty out of a hundred on my CS330 exam.  That is ten more points than the highest grade that I expected to get.  I am pleased.  Now to see what it looks like with the curve...

I am supposed to have dinner with Jourdan Thursday night.  She insisted on cooking again; I am going to try one more time at letting her let me take her out to dinner.  It won't be a date or anything, it'll just be returning the favor.  She cooked for me last time we hung out.  I'm sure she'd rather not eat commons, and I can barely microwave easymac properly, so the only thing I can do is take her out, right?  I mean, what's that one saying?  "If she cooks you dinner, she wants your penis." That proved false last time we hung out, so the idea that it is a date because I am paying for her dinner in a restaurant should also prove to be incorrect.  Because it is.  I was thinking Clark's, maybe.  I haven't been there since...  the first weekend back this semester.

Out of boredom I set up a guest user on my computer while making my own greeter (login screen for GDM).  It's fairly simple, but I like it.  It's this really artsy picture of an open harddrive with a simple little text box in the bottom right with "Username:" written above it.  The "Username:" (and later "Password:") are written in a font from Team Fortress 2, while the text box uses another font from Team Fortress 2.  It looks really good and was surprisingly easy to make.  I actually spent some time and set up some settings for the guest user too.  I hear a lot of people complaining about the deafult XFCE layout.  It really isn't that bad.  Obviously I prefer how I've got it set up now, but even so, it's not that bad by default.  And now I have the added bonus of not worrying about any of my stuff while someone else uses my computer!  Huzzah!

Nested X sessions make it really easy to test out login screens.  Also they're just plain fun.

I would do well to remember that I have homework for my 8:35 class sooner than four hours before the class starts.

Potential Parts List

Oof.  That's a decent amount of money either way...  Time to get on that job at the registration office, eh?

I'm not sure if my current power supply is good or not..  Some of the power supplies I've seen are pretty cheap, though.

  • Processor:
  • If it ain’t broke… break it

I decided, oddly, to update my graphics driver under Linux.  Why?  Fuck if I know.  The newest .run from nvidia's site installs, but breaks a few things for me (notably X, which complains of a version mismatch between the loaded module and the desired module).  Well, I uninstalled that and got the old drivers working and X was back and all was well.  Except I lost OpenGL...  What?  How?  Currently I am (re)installing the linux-restricted-drivers package from command line as well as posting this from command line.  Fun stuff, eh?

Oh, look.  X is back.  Still don't have GLX, though, despite the apt-get install nvidia-glx-new I just did.  Argh.  Not that OpenGL is much use with a broken graphics card, but I don't like the fact that it just doesn't work for seemingly no reason at all.

    Freaking great

I've been noticing over the past month or so that UT2004, Doom 3, and recently Oblivion would start to stutter after so much time spent playing the game.  Doom 3 usually did it the soonest.  Oblivion locked up my computer earlier today.  I don't know why I checked, but I noticed that the fan on my graphics card was not moving.  I suspect that this happened sometime over the summer, which means I've been putting this card in a LOT of danger since then.  Kevin claims it should be pretty easy to replace the fan on the card... but I prefer to think of it as an excuse to finally upgrade my machine.  But that requires money, and there are two things that I need to do with my money before I upgrade my computer: 1) Buy books, 2) acquire more.

Poop!  Good thing I was only playing Oblivion on relatively low settings and wasn't playing the Bioshock demo that I was actually about to quit Oblivion to try...
