Tribes 2 Download Link
Remember how I told you that Tribes 2 was free for download? But then FilePlanet ran out of CD-Keys and halted the download. I'm pleased to announce that a kind soul has uploaded Tribes 2, and many other games, to his personal site. Specifically, here's the link for the Tribes 2 (and 1) downloads. Tribes 2 is approximately 551mb, and is the exact download that FilePlanet was offering. So, go grab it before the LAN Party and at least play the training missions to get a handle on how things work. You're out of luck if you want to get a CD-Key though, FilePlanet still isn't offering them...
You’re kidding me
You know how the Windows version of Tribes 2 is free for download? Well, what about the Linux version? I've been search the web for the linux version, but everywhere I look, it costs more than $40! What is this crap!? Don't I at least get some sorta discount for having an actual disc for the Windows version? And, of course, a search for "linux tribes 2" on fileplanet didn't give many useful results. Though I did end up getting a linux patch to version 25034 (the latest version). And what's even better, is that the file name, tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run, contains cdrom in it. So, maybe it'll be like the Quake2 install, where it uses the files from the Windows CD, but installs a Linux version. If so, yipee! The 500mhz could be turned into a dedicated server for Tribes 2 now, and I'll also have this file ready for when I get my computer, so I can actually play Tribes 2 without having to switch to Windows.
Free, Tribes 2
Yes, I know this offer has been going on for a looong time, but I thought I'd like to point it out, seeing as how the tentative date for our LAN Party is July 10th. Tribes 2 is a very fun game. The gameplay is quite fast (even faster than Quake) and may take a while to get used to, but is rewarding once you finally get the hang of things. The game comes with about 8-10 "official" mods, with the required deathmatch (team DM also) and CTF modes included. There is no offline mode, but I've played with many dial-up users and they could play just fine. The game does require beefy hardware; David's machine (AMD Athlon XP 1600+, 128mb RAM, GeForce 2 MX) needs the settings turned down quite low to play it fine. My mom's machine (Athlon XP 2400+, twice the RAM, GeForce 2 MX) plays it considerably better though. And the machine Brian and I share? ::drools:: But seeing as how most of us at the LAN Parties have some pretty good machines, that shouldn't be a problem. It's suggested that you go through the tutorials first to understand various things in the game (like the inventory station, the targeting laser, mines, grenades, beacons, different armors, weapons, vehicles, etc.). To do this, you'll need to launch the 'Tribes 2 Offline' shortcut that's included with the game. This shortcut will also give you access to making and joining LAN servers. The 'Tribes 2 Online' shortcut will bring you to a login screen, prompting you to either sign in, or create a new account. When creating a new account, use the CD-Key that was provided to you on either your jewel case (if you bought the game like I did. Actually, I recieved it as a present ^_^) or via the link in this post. That's actually the ONLY time you need the CD-Key, it's more like an account key, but whatever. Once logged in, you'll create your warrior (you can choose their race/gender, skin, and voice; in tribes 1 you could also choose weapon load-out and armor here too). It's pretty easy to figure out from there. I just posted this here so some of you who are interested could play the game a bit before the LAN Party. If you don't want to, or can't, download the game via the provided link (i.e. if you have dial-up), I can rip the game for you at the LAN Party (or before, if I'm feeling nice) and I'll upload the image onto the server.
The links for the CD-Key and the Download itself are provided above this post.
WARNING: Oh! There's one, huge, gigantic downside to this whole thing. You need a fileplanet account. And to download the game itself, you'll probably have to wait in line, unless you're wasting your money on their subscription based service.
If you aren't able to download the game, or acquire a CD-Key before July 10th, I'll still rip the game for you. You'll at least be able to do the training missions and join LAN games that way.
Wow, I found a use for those custom fields.

Anyone?
Anyone have a PS2 -> PC controller adapter? If not, I'm currently looking at this one. It'd be nice to have a controller for FFXI (PC) 'cause it's kinda funky to play with the keyboard... And the controller could be used for other games as well (emulation anyone?). And! It allows two controllers at the same time, so there could be two players playing.. oh... say.. Kirby Super Star (SNES) on an emulator at the same time! That'd be awesome.

If you did manage to get signed up, my account is satoshi (I think, when I tried to log into the online account manager i couldn't get in, it kept saying incorrect account and password... it never said which though...). So, yea! If you can, just message me and we can play.
--Yea, my account is, indeed, satoshi. I think the web account manager was just a bit screwy.
