Some Changes

The 2.8 update to WordPress (which I lagged on getting) introduced built-in threaded comments. Previously I had been using a plugin to achieve this. I disabled the plugin, enabled threaded comments, and found a theme that takes advantage of them. Guess what? The old threads stayed, so I think the new support is built upon the plugin I used.

I really like this new theme.

I've finally got around to getting an HTML version of my resume up. I think it looks good. Ended up having to make a few formatting changes to make it look good on the web that I eventually carried over to the PDF version (linked on same page) because I like 'em so much.

I also disabled comments on posts older than fourteen days, since that seems to be where most of the spam is concentrated (actually, it's like eighty percent on one post from two or three years ago).

Just a little something I've had sitting in my themes folder for ages. I wanna get back into the whole HTML/CSS/PHP thing, just gotta find time for it. Designing themes for my site was enjoyable, and I like the start I have with this one, so I hope to be able to do something with it. Otherwise, it's just a nice, clean template.

Also, there's always the newtf layout I made for integration into NewTF's main page. I do like that I was so easily able to copy Jason's design. (I especially like that newtf.php can be used for ANYTHING on the site with no changes: E2 Plugin, Default layout and E2 Plugin, NewTF Style.

Should be fun, if I can get myself back into it.

Any LiveJournal/DeadJournal users wanna tell me how well the OpenID thing in the comments works? Thanks.

Links used to be a mid-gray color. Then a light blue. Now NewTF blue (#007). Needs some tweaking yet, just wanted links to be visible.

No, I did not make this theme... but I decided that I had not the time to do such a thing, and that my previous theme wasn't all that great. This one is really nice, so I'll be sticking with it for a while.

You may have noticed this theme go live yesterday... I did some quick CSS hacking to get a nice layout (that I've sadly lost in the process of making this theme) sometime last week and used that as the base for this theme. I seriously did most of the work on this Sunday night after work and Monday morning before work. I'm surprised I was able to turn it out so quickly! I seriously remember taking much longer to finish up my AndrAIa theme. Hm. I'm happy with what I've turned out though. I may end up tweaking it a bit in the near future (you know how when you make something you always want it to be better and better?), so as to include such important things as an archives page and links page, and perhaps an about page, but It's pretty much in it's final form. Maybe I'll release this theme, I'm not sure. I dunno if it'd actually do well at all, but it'd be worth a try, yes? Maybe you'll end up on someone else's website somehow and BAM! you'll see this theme. That'd be awesome. But first I need to get this thing ready for release. Comment the PHP and CSS, clean it up, etc.

By the way, the picture in the header graphic is from the Science Olympiad States competition last year, of the river that ran through campus.

(Besides, this theme was a good excuse to use the awesome image headline plugin =P)

Simple and Clean

So you may have noticed a new look around here.. I like it, got a few compliments on it already... I planned on doing something awesome with it, full on css driven layout with beautiful images. Something to be proud of. But I never did get that far... I'm content with how it looks right now.. Maybe later I'll do something, but right now I just want something simple... Even if that something is just my website.. I need some simplicity... Too much going on as of late... Too much to deal with... Black and white is easy on the eyes.. it's easy to wash.. it's easy to get.. it is easy to get rid of.. It's.. easy.

Right now I just need something easy..

Just realized that I didn't have a links page up. Odd, because I still have the template for it, and it's just a few clicks as well as adding a few more lines to the menu.php to get it up and running. Oh well, it's up now. Go crazy.

Archival Awesomeness

I noticed that I didn't have a link to my archives. I forgot exactly why I took this down... but I did. Well, I tweaked the page a bit, got a two-columnish layout with the monthly archives on the left, and the categorial archives on the right. It looks decent and performs well. That's all I ask from it until I get a new theme up =P I fixed the OpenID server thing too, just had to move a link tag into the head that the plugin was inserting into the body. Now it works fine and I can comment on people's LJs and DJs without actually needing an LJ or a DJ account! Awesomeness. That's.. about it! I need to work on the OpenID Authentication page, but that's only visible to me, so it doesn't really matter.

In other news, I added a butt load of header images and finally got a random image script working. There's afourteen of them. I had way too much time on my hands. Mostly I tried to get ones that were blueish, or at least looked decent with the theme. One of them, however, is VERY brown and doesn't really match at all. I had to add it though, it's awesome. Probably my favorite one is the one from WarCraft III where there's a buttload of Marines and some dude is saying that everyone else is screwed. :grin:

Just some minor crap I decided to do while bored. The summer sucks so far. We need to hang out. Somebody, most anybody. Argh!

Playing in the Sandbox

If some of you nosy people have gone a sniffin' in my site, you may have run across my sandbox. Basically, it's a playground that I've set up to mess with and come up with ideas for layouts and such. Right now, I'm working on your basic three column layout. It's coming along VERY nicely. All three columns behave PERFECTLY in both IE and Firefox. I love it when things work. There were issues, of course, but I easily got those worked out. Awe-freaking-some. The color scheme will change. I originally wanted to do something with this color scheme, but I couldn't make it work right at first. I eventually went with this one. They're both nice, but I really want to use the pink one. It's totally different from everything else I've done and I think I could make something very unique with it. Hopefully I figure out how to use it without making y'all want to stab yourselves in the eye with a fork.

I finally got the theme page up and running. If you missed the old WoW header, you can get your fix again. However, you can only view it on that page, can't view the rest of the site with that theme, unfortunatly.
