WordPress Everything2 Pipe Linker Plugin
by Tony, filed in Miscellaneous at June 29th, 2005
I was writing something up in WordPress that I planned on submitting to Everything2 when I thought to myself, hey! I can cross post this to both E2 AND my site! But then I realized that any and all pipe links (and hard links) wouldn’t work properly in WordPress. That’s when I decided it was nigh time for ol’ Sato here to bust out his m4d l337 php skillz and code himself a nifty E2 Pipe Linking plugin.
The result is what you see here. Highlight over many of these links and you’ll see that the title of the node on E2 is brought up, as well as the URL of said node on E2 (the nifty tooltip that shows the URL is part of the Fancy ToolTips Plugin).
You’ll also notice that the text used for the title still has the +’s from the URL in it. I have yet to figure that one out… Fixed!
Other than that, however, this plugin works VERY well.
In the future, I might even think of adding features other than linking to E2. Linking to your own site, for example? For that, however, I’d probably have to learn how to do some MySQL database interaction. That should be fun.
I just realized that I should probably educate y’all on exactly what a pipe link is, yes? Perhaps the site that is the inspiration for this plugin would be the best place to go. Check it out. It’s very cool stuff.
If you’re too lazy to follow those links, basically what a pipe link does is display one thing but point (pipe) the viewer to another. It’s really a neat linking method that allows one to do things with their writing previously thought impossible.
ToDo:
Remove plusses from text in title.Register a plugin sink for comments in addition to main post body.- Make hard links work (i.e. [Goldfish in a ziplock bag] and not [Goldfish in a ziplock bag|Goldfish in a ziplock bag])
